Lighting Directory is free to use. This page explains how the site is (and plans to be) funded, so you can weigh what you read here with full information.

Affiliate links

Some links from store profiles to retailers' websites may be affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, the retailer may pay us a commission. This costs you nothing. Prices are the same whether you arrive through our link or directly.

Featured placements

Stores marked Featured receive additional visibility in the directory. Featured status may be provided as a paid placement, and being an affiliate partner is one of the things we weigh when choosing which stores to feature. It is always labeled, and it does not change how a store is categorized or described.

A store's independent review record is the main thing we weigh, and we publish it in the "Is it legit?" section of every profile. We have removed featured status from stores whose review records did not justify it, and we do not add a store to the featured block on the strength of what it pays us alone.

One current exception, stated plainly because you should not have to infer it: Dlight Decor is featured despite having no independent review record that we could verify on Trustpilot, the BBB, or any other third-party platform. Its profile says so, and lists what we could and could not confirm about the company. Treat it as a store we have not been able to check the service history of.

What money doesn't buy

• Inclusion in the directory. Stores are listed through editorial review; see the about page for the principles behind it. No retailer can pay to be listed or to avoid removal.
• Categorization. Which categories, styles, and rooms a store appears under reflects its actual catalog, not its commercial relationship with us.
• Accuracy flags. If a store's website stops responding, we say so on its profile, affiliate partner or not.
